In Phillip Gwyne's novel Deadly Unna we encounter a fourteen-year-old Gary Black. The purpose of this essay is to argue whether Gary Black is a gutless wonder or not. It will be proved by my evidence that Gary Black is not a gutless wonder as he isn't afraid to do what he believes or isn't afraid to suffer the consequences.
A gutless wonder is someone who is afraid to do what he believes, is afraid of the consequences and backs out of things that he or she is afraid of.
On a few occasions in this novel Gary Black was a gutless wonder. He was afraid to make a move and talk to the girl he was in love with. Also at the beach he was afraid to go and put his towel next to her so he could lie down. "I had two choices either I put my towel down next to Pickles, or next to Cathy at the other end. What did he do, our brave hero? Yep, you guessed it...
