Heart of Darkness
In Heart of Darkness, I found a very deep meaning to this book. I had a hard time following the story, but I just had to keep reading. I imagined it being like a boat with a few guys on it and it is an awkward silence and someone starts up a story. I was on a plane to Texas when I read this and it was very interesting that I was reading this book when I was traveling. I really connected with Marlow, he wants to find the blank spots on his map and I am starting to travel more with my job. It seems to show his excitement to get out in the world but when he is deep into a new blank spot, he realizes what a blank spot to society can do to a man. I thought this book really went after the inner journeys people have to deal with when they are alone, or in a foreign place for an extended period of time. We see in our society that being alone is frowned upon. I think Conrad was trying to show what might happen to a person if they are alone from their society. Kurtz is never alone in the fact he has many people around him, but he was one of only a few who were of his same society...
