Hardware falls into two obvious main genres, these being science fiction and horror. Western, suspense, action, and the war influences and commonalities are also being injected into the film, but not to the extent of the two obvious genres. The chick flick and film noir are sub genres which also play within the film in more subdued levels. The film is verisimilar, the world could be in distress, because of nuclear war and war with robots which were built to limit human casualties. Moe, the protagonist is in the CORP. or the army, who returns to see his girlfriend like so many war films and in real life. The machine becomes activated and goes on with its mission, this mission being population control. Moe and Jill work with the use of weapons to defeat the machine. It is viable to say these occurrences could happen and machines could be built to some extent, but of course the film is fiction.
The film is placed in the science fiction genre, because of the nuclear post apocalyptic time...
