The successful "Invisible Man," Ralph Ellison
"Live with integrity, respect the rights of other people, and follow your own bliss," these are the words of Nathaniel Branden, a United States psychologist. One person who lived his life by this quote is the American author Ralph Waldo Ellison. Ralph Ellison is as celebrated today as one of America's finest authors as he was fifty years ago. Ellison established himself among the most important American novelists of his generation, a position that was not only maintained but enhanced in the following decades. This is quite an accomplishment for a man that only completed one novel in his lifetime. Ellison's personal background, early success, historical impact and literary influences all play a big part in his novel and works, and how successful and accomplished he is today.
Ellison's career though, didn't start off with writing. It all began with his fondness of music. He started off as a talented trumpet player and a free-lancer photographer. Ralph Ellison was born the grandson of slaves in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 1, 1914...
