While Ibn Battuta was in Delhi, India, he watched many social, economical, political changes take place. Many these changes were linked to the spreading of Dar Al-Islam.
The city of Delhi officially became part of Dar al-Islam through a conquest. It was Muslim Turkish rulers from Afghanistan who led this conquest. This conquest was a jihad or holy war against the Hindus in India. The Muslim forces that conquered the land looted many towns and destroyed all forms of religious art belonging to the Hindu's. During the thirteenth century, Delhi flourished. They managed to increase their revenue by reaping the benefits from the labor unions and from farmers. Also many of the local leaders were replaced with Turkish officials from Afghanistan.
As time passed, and Dar Al-Islam spread, India had become more controlled by the Muslim leaders...
