A Quest for a Place in Life
Throughout the novel Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Bronte, we are shown how each stage in Jane's life coincides with a particular location, in which Jane lives. As Jane grows and matures, she changes her residence five times, Gateshead Hall to Lowood, to Thornfield Hall, to Moor House and finally to Ferndean. With each change Jane encounters new adventures and new people. It is these influences that help Jane attain freedom from her restraints and ultimately shape the woman she becomes.
Jane's first home out of the total five is Gateshead Hall. It is here where Jane is thought of "less than a servant" (11), by her aunt, Mrs. Reed and her cousins John, Eliza and Georgiana.
