Abraham Lincoln might have been the greatest President to serve our country.
He is most remembered for his fundamental position as the leader in conserving the
Union during the Civil War and was the man responsible for abolishing slavery in the
United States. "He is also remembered for his character, his speeches and letters, and
as a man of humble origins whose determination and perseverance led him to the
nation's highest office." (Norton). Lincoln faced many issues during the War that put the
Union at stake. His decisions would eventually decide the outcome of our country. He
wholeheartedly believed that the Union could stay together; he described it as "the last
best hope of earth." With all of his efforts the United States was able to unite once again.
Abraham Lincoln accomplished many things during his presidency that influenced social,
political, military, and economical issues from around the country.
