The Interference of Technological Advances
Throughout the ages technological advances have been made that both helped and hindered society. The cotton gin increased productivity, as did the assembly line and the calculator. Advances made in cloning are questionable as can be some advances in the medical field. Scientists have a tendency to passionately search for new advances in the areas of science and technology without a lot of thought of the consequences their research could have. During the Romantic period this theme existing in much of the writings, particularly Mary Wallstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein. This same persistence and reckless passion continues today and will continue into the future. Technological advances will interfere with the lives of the children today and with their choices of careers. With today's competition for low production costs, businesses are being encouraged to ship their production plants over seas and American youth are forced to look into more creative jobs instead of hands on work. Some of the effects of technological advances will become tragic especially for those that are currently twenty years old and younger.
