In Sophocles's "Oedipus The King", the downfall of Oedipus consist of the tragic flaw of his character. There is a conflict between being a king and also being a downfall because a king can not be a downfall or a downfall can not be a king at the same time. He underestimates people's ideas about his fate, he is blindness to his fate and his being proud and angry affects everything about himself. So he writes his own fate by his own hands.
Oedipus does not want to believe in prophecy so that he does not believe the realities which said for him. Firstly, Oedipus does not believe a man who states about Oedipus' family is not his real family. When he went Apollo, Apollo told about the curse, Oedipus still thinks that Polybus is his real father so, in order not to hurt the family he runs out of Corinth, actually he escapes from the realities. Also Oedipus does not believe in Tiresias too, because he tells Oedipus that his being murderer of the king Laius, but he chooses to make fun of Tiresias' blindness. Also, Oedipus claims that Creon plots against him but Creon does not want to be the king, he wants peace rather than kingship. By not believing in these people he underestimates them...
