The War on Drugs started by Ronald Reagan in 1982, and escalated by George Bush Sr. has become one of the most controversial government policies in the history of the United Sates. While some believe the War on Drugs is a worthy cause, others believe it is self- destructive, nave, and unconstitutional. Although the "War" has not been as successful as once thought, to give up now would be admitting defeat, something are politicians seem to have trouble with. The most difficult question to answer is, what would we do without such strict laws? In order to come to a conclusion, as to the fate of this policy, the positive and negative effects of the War on Drugs must be evaluated.
Regardless of potency, drugs are an unhealthy substance and rates of abuse need to be addressed. Throughout the entire world people are exploited by drug dealers who make a small fortune of the misery and suffering of those less fortunate. To allow such blatant disrespect for the law would be uncivilized.
