How to deal with difficult parents who are too busy to be involved in their child's educational process.
When dealing with difficult and potentially hostile parents on educational issues, you got several options to consider. You can A) give into a parent's request, B) hold your ground and risk a due process hearing, or C) negotiate and try to find a comprise both sides can live with. The pros and cons of each of these alternatives will be examined in turn. Parents of course have a tremendous amount of power, especially if their child has been diagnosed as having a special educational need or as eligible for modifications under Section 504. Parents can demand for the sun and settle for the moon. It is essential that you know if the law grants these parents the capacity to receive the modifications that they are requisition.
What happens when the parents threaten with a due process hearing? "An overwhelming majority who threaten to call for due process hearing do not follow through". (Wilde 101) When they find out the hassle involved they try to work things out with out going to a hearing or legal suit...
