Noh Theatre
Context
Noh is one type of Japanese performing arts, which combines dance, music, poetry, and drama. Noh theatre began during the 14th century and is Japan's oldest traditional form of drama.
It developed into its present form during the 14th and 15th centuries under the leadership of the distinguished performer Kannami and his son Zeami.
Noh lost its govern mental support and was left to fend for itself. Although it nearly died out, enough performers regrouped, found private sponsors, and began teaching the art to amateurs so that it slowly began to flourish again.
It is still performed today in Japan and is very popular. People come from everywhere to watch this impressive performance. There are today approximately 1,500 professional performers who make their living largely through performing and teaching Noh.

Noh performances reflect upon the daily life of the Japanese. Noh is performed throughout Japan by professional actors, mostly men, who pass down the art to family members for generations...
