My research is aimed to examine the theory and practise of Kevin Lynch in city design and planning, and assess his influence and contribute.
Biography of Kevin Lynch
Kevin Lynch was born in Chiago, the United States, in 1918, and died in 1984 at the age of 66. He lived a full and creative life, with the dedication to the improvement of human life.
Education:
When he was a young man, he searched for the vocation that would combine his love of making things with his social ideas. He was educated first in the architecture of Yale University, and switched to be apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, and afterward left to study civil engineering and then biology at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, finally setting for a Bachelors degree in city planning at MIT. He went on to gain Professorship at MIT in 1963.
Career
After graduation, Lynch worked with the Greensboro Planning Commission as his first job. In 1948, he was invited to join the faculty of MIT, beginning an academic career last for 30 years. Throughout the time in MIT, Kevin Lynch devoted himself to research, teaching, and writing. He also kept hand in practice, testing his ideas and forming new ones...
