The emphasis of The Game of Pig unit is probability and its applications. One of the first things that come to mind when thinking about probability is games of chance. What are the odds of this or that happening? But as in any game of chance, life presents real situations and circumstances that can be better comprehended by having an understanding of how probability works and functions.
For many people one on the most basic day to day applications of probability is relying upon the nightly weather forecast in making plans for the coming day. Predicting the weather has become somewhat of a marriage between scientific models and meteorological principles, and data that has been amassed over long periods of time. Forecasters predict the weather based not only on what the models say will happen, but on the previous outcomes that have been recorded in the past based upon the same or similar circumstances. Together this information results in say a 70 percent chance of rain on a given day.
