In order to watch regeneration of new segments we cut bloodworms into varying pieces. For our experiment we first cut one worm into two asymmetrical pieces; the head being the shorter piece and the tail being the longer piece. Next we took another worm and reversed the first procedure. The two segments from each worm were placed together in a container of spring water, one worm in each container. When we viewed the worms after 5 days new segments had already begun to form. While we could not distinguish the number of segments that actually grew there seemed to be new, white growth at both ends of each worm segment (all four pieces). The new growth was white and blood vessels could be seen inside. We were unable to further our watch of the worm regeneration because the worms died.
When the class shared their information only one other group experienced growth at both ends of the worm. This could be due to a number of reasons...
