1. The Death of Jesus
Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins they also believe that Jesus' death was an act of atonement although they differ as to what "atonement" actually means. Although it was part of God's plan for Jesus to suffer, that was not the end of the story. Jesus rose from death and as far as we know nobody at the time of Jesus expected him to die - let alone rise again. Christians believe that the Resurrection of Jesus is relevant to them. Human sins had opened the way to hell and God had already sent a flood to destroy us once before and he had given Noah his word (by showing him a rainbow) that he would never do this again to punish us for our sins and therefore closing the gates to hell and reopening the gates to heaven. He took on himself the punishment for all of our sins to save us and to reopen the way to heaven. Christians believe that in life after death we are taken up to heaven to be with God and Jesus. In Mk 1432-42 where Jesus is praying to God that he won't let him be killed and that he can do anything he wanted to showing that he is obviously scared of dying but in Mk 1461-64 where the high priest asks Jesus if he is the son of man and Jesus replies "I am and you will see the son of man seated at the right hand of the power and coming with the clouds of heaven" showing that he is now ready to die...
