Road to Perdition is a gangster film directed by Sam Mendes and released in 2003 by DreamWorks. ... The meaning of ‘Perdition’ in the title is the journey to where Michael Sullivan and his son Michael Sullivan Jr are heading (Perdition Road) but is also a symbolic voyage to hell and ultimate damnation.
Road to Perdition has a basic melodrama feeling to it, with Sullivan working for most of the film to destroy evil and save innocence, picking off the baddies and protecting Michael Jr. ...

Most gangster films are about ‘family’, both related by blood and the gangster team.
