In "Pride and Prejudice", what does Jane Austen teach us about the trials and tribulations of relationships?
In Pride and Prejudice there are many various couples who al have different relationships and different views on marriage. Austen tries to teach us many things about the trials and tribulations of relationships. For this essay I am going to focus on four couples: Mr Collins and Miss Lucas, Mr Whickham and Lydia, Mr Bingley and Jane Bennet and Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. I have chosen these couples because I believe that they create the best contrast out of the novel when compared.
The first couple that I am going to look at is Mr Collins and see that Mr Collins has a very specific attitude towards Marriage. We start to see this through his proposal to Elizabeth Bennet. His attitude to marriage while being very specific is also very formal, which is not uncommon in the novel as it was written and so set in (insert). He follows all the proper channels for a proposal by asking for permission from the parents before asking for the hand of the daughter.
Mr Collins proposal to Elizabeth consists entirely of his reasons to marry her and not a single one of those reasons has even the slightest referral to love...
