Recalling My Memories Through My Children
Reading "Once More to the Lake" reminded me of the time I took my children on vacation to the lake I went to as a child. As I watched my children I went back in time even though things were different. White, the author, wrote about the chill in his groin while watching his son put on the wet trucks, and run off to go swimming. While experiencing a thunder storm I felt a warmth flow through me while sitting in the glow of a Coleman lantern. Everything I experienced as a child came back to me at that moment.
I remember looking for the dirt road off Route 2 that would lead us to the lake. Both children were in the back seat feeling a little sleepy after a long ride. I finally saw the road I was looking for and to my amazement it was now a gravel road. I turned in, and started down the road. The children became alert due to the bumps in the road...
