Kate Choplin's, Desiree Baby is set in 1850's in Louisiana. Desiree's Baby is a short story for which Kate Choplin is most well known. The story opens with a brief history of founding Desiree, who was adopted by Valmode family after they found her by the side of the road. Desiree's heritage was unknown. She was abandoned by a party of Texans. Madame Valmonde, who became Desiree's adopted mother, raised Desiree as a child of her affection. When Desiree becomes a young woman, her beauty attracted the attention of Armand Aubigny, a neighbouring plantation owner. Armand Aubigny desired t marry Desiree despite of her unknown heritage. After marriage, Desiree and Armand got blessed with a baby boy. As the baby Armand grew it became apparent that the baby has inherited black genes...
