Grammar of Languages
What is the grammar of languages? According to the American traditional dictionary, grammar is defined as the system of rules implicit in a language, viewed as a mechanism for generating all sentences possible in that language, and the system of inflections, syntax, and word formation of a language.
Many linguists assume that the form human languages take is determined by the nature of the human mind. Since human memory is limited, people have to group words into small phrases and these into larger ones in order to communicate information.
In Analyzing English Grammar, grammar is a word with a number of distinct meanings. Grammar can refer to the linguistic system that presumably exists in the mind of a speaker of a language, and also mean a description of the language system. Furthermore, it can refer to an ideal set of rules sometimes called correct or proper grammar.
Since grammar has so many functions, it was usually used to categorize the universal languages. The old languages and languages currently being used, can be briefly classified into two types by the grammatical principles.
