The Law

I believe abortion should not be used as a form of contraceptive, it should be taken seriously and should not be used as a problem solver. Women are not taking responsibility for their own action and abortion is a part of their escape. If women are mature enough to have sex then they are mature enough to accept the pregnancy consequences. I believe that an abortion is morally wrong and in my religion unacceptable, abortion is murder. Abortion can bring several sicknesses as well as diseases that can physically and mentally hurt women. Abortion is murder and these particular women who abort are risking their lives in the process of ruining another. Abortion has its pros and cons, which lead to people agreeing and disagreeing with abortion at the same time. I am against abortion to a certain limit. If a woman is raped, then I believe a woman should have the right to go through an abortion if she wants since she did not decide to become pregnant intentionally. On the other hand, if a woman has unprotected sex or lack of responsibility and becomes pregnant, she should not abort or use abortion as her form of contraceptive. If women feel mature enough and responsible to have sex, then they should do the same by having their child instead of taking the easy way out—to abort.Abortion is a very risky and dangerous procedure; it is not like going to the dentist. Besides killing an innocent, a woman goes through the procedure in a high risk of death. Unless women can decide whether and when to have children, it is difficult for us to control our lives or be a part of society. For this purpose women have been using abortion as a means of fertility control. Eventhough I am against abortion to a certain limit I believe legal, safe, and affordable abortions are an important part of having that control. When a person is considering an abortion or in choosing where to have an abortion, the person has to write and know the procedures. Someone that is willing to go through an abortion has to know the risks and dangers of a practiced abortion. The famous Roe vs. Wade court decision, which mentions that it is a woman’s body, therefore, it is a woman’s choice to abort or not abort has been a very controversial issue. Yes, it is a woman’s body and it is her choice, but these women have to keep in mind the high risks of abortion: The U.S. Supreme Court, in Roe v. Wade, ruled in 1973 that, during the second trimester, the state could prohibit abortion unless the pregnancy endangered the mother’s health or life. After the point of fetal viability (when the fetus can potentially survive outside the womb), the state may prohibit abortion except when it is necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother (Rein). After the court decision several women ignored the ruling and continued having their abortions. Many women were practicing unsafe and unprofessional abortions, and were dying. There were some women that tried aborting by inserting a fork in the vagina to try and “scramble” the fetus. Esther, a dear friend of mine was in a near death experience during an unsafe and unprofessional abortion. She was not aware of the high risks and complications on abortion. She knew that her religion and family values were not going to accept her decision on abortion and went through with it anyway. The first few days after the abortion, she was fine just a little tired. A week past by and she was in serious pain. She went for a check up, and found out that she was not going to be able to conceive anymore.
