Much More Than Just a Birthday
Some people are born on Christmas, a few on Halloween, and others are born on January 26. Although it is not a national holiday, and employees still need to attend work, this January date is an important component of the calendar. On January 26, 1863, Black soldiers are recruited to fight for the Union in the 54th and 55th Massachusetts regiments, and in 1906 a Stanley Steamer automobile completed a mile in 28.2 seconds. But the year 1987 held the true excitement. My mom specifically remembers a long night with no sleep, but outside of my hospital room the nation was changing. On Monday January 26, the day after the super bowl, Technology experienced a boost, storm clouds burst, and employed parents rallied for benefits.
I was born in the hick town of Red Bluff, where one pitiful computer was a luxury in our suburban house, however, the rest of the nation wanted to see technological advancements. IBM had been receiving the harshest criticism ever, and customer satisfaction was deteriorating.
