Throughout history, mankind has taken many 'baby steps', which has shaped and changed our world and has resulted in a present society where democracy, equality and freedom exist for men of all colours and sizes. One of these 'steps' was in 1969 when the first man landed on the moon, 'one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind' Neil Armstrong, this opened doors to space exploration and advancements to human knowledge of the universe. The 'steps' depicted in the magnificent novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird', was the progress of achieving equality in the town of Maycomb. The book 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is a tale of one man's fight against his town and their beliefs, to bring justice to an innocent Negro accused of rape. It shows the destructive power of racism, to the reader, through the little town and its people. The author also presents the concept that racism is wrong and men were created equal, which comes about the quote 'we're making a step, it's just a baby step, but it's a step.'
