Liberal attitudes change all the time and they could either get for the better or worse, liberal attitudes continue to grow especially when it comes to the new moral right.
One sexual identity (homosexuality) has had a slow shift in attitudes in both Britain and the United States since the 1960's. This got more toleration then acceptance whose limits have been well stated by gay activists.

Weeks also suggests (2003:16) over the past generation many of the old organising patterns and controls have been challenged and often undermined (weakened), and sexuality has become closer than before to the centre of public debate.
This has caused a crisis over sexuality: a crisis in the relations of sex, especially in the relation between men and women and a crisis over sexuality in our society.
There has also been a mobilisation of political forces around sexual issues; a few good commonplace on Right and Left, with the Right taking place more than the Left.
