King hussein was born in Amman on November 14, 1935 to prince talal and princess jamil. Hussein completed his formal education at the Victoria College in Egypt and Harrow school in England. He later received his Military Education at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst England. Early in Husseins life he experienced an event that would change his life dramatically and would determine the thoughts and actions to be faced in the future. In july, 1951 Hussein experienced the assassination of his grandfather King Abdullah as they attended Friday prayer at a mosque in Jerusalem and his father King Talal assumed his position on the throne on September 6, 1951. Although not long after his call to the throne King talal was forced to stand down and allow King Hussein to take up his royal duties to mental illness.
King Hussein was proclaimed King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 11 August, 1952 although a regency council was appointed until he reached the age of 18 and formally proclaimed his royal duties on the 2nd May 1953. At this young age Hussein based his knowledge and actions on the teachings of his father and in particular his grandfather. Also his influences were based on the teachings and education he received at traditional English schools where he was exposed to Western style of living.
