Haute couture in the twentieth century underwent perhaps the most dramatic transformation because of a young audacious parisienne. Her name was Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, popularly known as Coco Chanel. She revolutionized womens wear and set new standards for contemporary style. Her classic styles have continued to thrive long after her death and she will always be considered a legendary figure of the fashion world. More than two decades after her death, the name Chanel and its trademark of two crossed Cs (pic.1) continue to symbolize security, style, and prestige. She was a perfectionist and yet a realist that she gained respect from other talented people. Picasso once called her, the woman with the most sense in Europe she truly developed her creativity to become a designer who invented twentieth century womens fashion. The House of Chanel, which still remains as one of the top designer houses today, is a creation of Chanels devotion and ambition.
