As a teenager, I grew up in a locality with basic civic amenities, but it lacked infrastructure for sports and recreation such as a basketball or volleyball. Bored with playing soccer that required minimum infrastructure and wanting to try something new, among 15 teenage boys, we dug our small pockets and raised money to construct a volleyball facility, in a vacant unused park. We also contributed with physical labor and were thrilled about doing something to improve our locality.
After two evenings of enthusiastic games, on the third evening, we saw that the municipal authorities tearing down the court and our hearts sank. The situation warranted a cogent team effort to deal with the circumstance. Even before we could take stalk of how to deal with the situation 3 factions emerged. The first faction, in the typical rush of youth protested, almost physically stopping the authorities from doing their job. The policemen, who were on standby, delivered couple of blows with their canes. The situation spilled out of control and the word was out that "the boys were creating trouble."
