Up In Smoke
Today, smoking seems to be getting more and more of the proverbial spotlight regarding the negative effects it has on people. We are constantly bombarded with commercials such as ?the truth? which has teenagers addressing issues such as the number of deaths per year caused by smoking and reports that were withheld from the general public that could have prevented some of those deaths. Smoking does get a lot of deserved bad press but that was not always the case.
Smoking used to be looked at in a different light. As was reported by Ronald Gilbert, at the turn of the 20th century, smoking was looked down upon. It wasn?t until World War I that it became acceptable for men to smoke. The forties saw smoking truly became socially acceptable and culturally attractive for both men and women...
