Throughout the literary history, there have been numerous authors who based books on their own experiences and childhoods. One British author, who wrote novels through his own experiences, is Charles Dickens. His challenging life and success led to the writing of his two most famous books, Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. In these books, readers are able to see how similar an author can be to its characters. Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist and David Copperfield are all males of the 19th century, who face poverty and love.
Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Portsea on the south coast of England. His childhood was mostly spent in London and Kent, both of which are mentioned in his novels. John Dickens, the father, was a clerk in the navy pay office. His siblings and parents were part of the lower middle class.
