Are stroke and heart attack the same thing? Lots of people do not know the difference between a stroke and a heart attack. Many believe that heart attack and stroke are same, but that is not true. A heart attack, which is also refereed as myocardial infarction, is the name we use when part of the heart muscle is damaged or dies because it is not getting enough oxygen. While a stroke is a sudden loss of brain function. ... Every year approximately 17 million people die of cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart attacks and strokes (Who 1). ...
