“A Father’s Love”
In t, “My Papa’s Waltz” by Theodore Roethke and “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden both poets describe the relationships between the fathers and their children. ... Overall Roethke describes his father as loving and caring, but not always able to show it, and their relationship is good but skewed by the fathers inability to always relate.
In “Those Winter Sundays,” Hayden shows how a father will do many things out of love for his children. ... The father’s dedication and love for his child extenders to his sons’ appearance at church. ... ” because even though the father loves his son, it is a stern love that my not present itself in the usual ways(9-10). The father does all these things for his son, but he does not express this love verbally. At the end Hayden asks, “What did I know, what did I know of love’s austere and lonely offices?
