She told me what a good mother she was. She wanted me to have everything she didn't. Through trying to spare me of the hardships poor uneducated people endure, she put me through the hardship of dealing with a parent with unrealistically high expectations. I suffered dearly trying to meet those expectations, and while trying to gain the education my mother never attained, I would grow up never having something many other children were so lucky to have. They had a good mother. On a test in second grade, I received a 96. I was proud of that grade, but I knew she wouldn't be. Mom glanced at the paper, her eyes flickering between me and the "A" scribbled on the test. She hit me. I never really felt the physical blow when she would strike me. My heart ached.
