Ragtime Doctorov does an amazing job of exposing the reality and chaos of the country at the turn of the century. The use of the Little Boy as the narrator is effective in that the boy tells the reader what he sees, and the rest he makes up from his imagination. There is no possible way he could have been there for all the events that took place. However, I do not doubt that what he invents is that far from the truth. The narration represents the time period, people are pretending that everything is all right, that everything is just fine, but in fact everything is not all right, and everything is not fine.
