“Essay on Vanka” Vanka is a story of a young boy on Christmas Eve. Unlike most children on Christmas Eve, he is not concerned with receiving gifts or making cookies to be placed near the fireplace when good ol’ St. Nick pays a visit. The maturity level of such a young buy seems to be much higher than expected, at least to today’s standards. The main reminder to Vanka’s view starts in the first paragraph where you are told he is only nine years old. Reference is made to running away, but the young boy did not do so because he did not have shoes. Later in the story he goes outside with much less than boots to find the mail box.
