... At the top of the list stood Abraham Lincoln, for his courage of conviction, integrity, character and decisiveness. Lincoln born February 12th 1809 in Kentucky will be remembered as one of the greats. He guided the Union states to victory during the civil war. Lincoln managed in the process of saving the Union and killing slavery to define the creation of a more perfect Union in terms of liberty and economic equality that rallied the citizenry behind him. In the time Abraham Lincoln was president and the Civil war was being fought, this man affected America in many ways, including political, social, economic and technological advances and set backs.
As President, Lincoln built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. ... On the political spectrum Lincoln was a republican who believed that preservation of a nation far outweighed that of the preservation of upholding some constitutional laws. Here Lincoln says while addressing the congress on July 4th 1861 “I felt that measures, otherwise unconstitutional, might become lawful by becoming indispensable to the preservation of the constitution through preservation of the nation”. Lincoln had many advances and set backs in the time he was in office.
