When I was choosing a film for this paper, I decided to opt for a Hollywood film as English is my third language. At first I thought I would rather choose a drama film, as film of this genre reflects more of their culture background and the true drama would have more depth for analysis. However I realized, even a comedy film could be analyzed from a sociological perspective and therefore I chose ‘Rush Hour’. This film is focused on two comedians, Jackie Chan ‘the fastest hands in the East’ and Chris Tucker ‘the biggest mouth in the West’. Two characters from the opposite sides of the world team up to investigate a kidnapping. I chose this movie so that I could look at two different cultures and I could also analyze their reactions towards each other. The film gave me an opportunity to respond differently to each culture and make assumptions on the basis of my analysis, from my cultural perspective.
