In “A Cup of Tea”, Katherine Mansfield skillful use of realism is employed by the portrayal of the wealthy Rosemary and her lifestyle. Rosemary, the protagonist, is depicted as “extremely modern, exquisitely well dressed, and amazingly well read in the newest of the new books”. Her husband absolutely “adores” her, and Rosemary barely has to lift a finger. She has a chauffer to drive her to Paris for shopping trips and servants to cater to all her household needs. She host parties where a mixture of really important people and artists come just to be “presentable and amusing” to her. Pamper upper class a wife never has to work but instead spends her days shopping, visiting, and entertaining.
