She has no courage to do anything drastic about to change her life she doesn't feel very well. As can be seen, because she is spoilt due to her childhood environment and she is scared that she is getting older, she entered into a marriage for entirely wrong reasons and has now found herself in a middle class world in which she feels unhappy. She tries to gain her excitement through the actions of other people, such as by trying to encourage Lovborg to commit the "beautiful act" of suicide. Her meaning in her life is the affirmation of values such as beauty, caurage she expects from Lovborg's suicide. " It gives me a scene of freedom to know that a deed of deliberate courage is still possible in this world, a deed of spontaneouse beauty". When she finds out that Lovborg died i n a brawl with a postitute, she eventally has to take her problems into her own hands and escape from her environment in the only way which she sees as possible, by killing herself.
