I didn't get a chance to attend his presentation because I was leading a workshop at the same time. I bought the tape of his talk since it was one I most wanted to hear. I would be happy to share it with anyone interested in listening. He is an engaging storyteller, a respected statesman and world traveler; he has spoken before the United Nations many times, and came to our General Assembly to urge our support of the Earth Charter being put forward by most member nations of the United Nations after many years of work. It is "a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the 21st century . . ." recognizing that "environmental protection, human rights, equitable human development, and peace are interdependent and indivisible;" which earth centered peoples have told us all along. What I appreciate most about Oren Lyons is that he embodies the survival of ancient wisdom. He has managed the difficult balance of assimilating to western culture and keeping the basic values of his heritage alive in himself, in his people.
