A Fight for Rights A long time ago, many people living in England had no rights. During the 13th century, the Kings in England could do anything they wanted to do. They were very mean to the people that lived in their country. The Kings would kill people, take their land and money and lock them in dungeons and keep them there! Could you imagine if something like this had happened to you or your family? How would you feel if these horrible things took place and you were not able to defend yourself by telling your side of the story? As you could see, the people in England were very angry with the King and they decided to all join together and do something about it. This is when the Magna Carta was created. This was a document signed by the citizens of England, which said that Kings could no longer do anything they wanted to do to the people of England. It gave the English basic rights and put a stop to the cruel things the King was doing to them.
