A lot has been spoken of McCormick Field and certainly there has been plenty written about the grand home of the Asheville Tourists. But, one can hardly put into words both the impact and significance that the "old ball yard" has had on the face of baseball in the City of Asheville. Of all of the accounts on McCormick Field, it’s the version penned by local writer Bob Terrell - The Old Ball Yard - that probably serves as the most in-depth and accurate. But, not even Terrell’s great account can due justice to a ballpark that was so admired by both Branch Rickey and Babe Ruth. What follows is a humble attempt to pay honor to this great facility, which celebrates its 75th Anniversary this season.
