Argumentative Essay: Gays Should Legally Have the Right to Marry
“We live in a free society, and freedom means freedom for everybody,” said Dick Cheney (electronic 2). America’s society was built on the foundation that everyone should have equal rights. ... There is no legitimate reason why gay marriages shouldn’t be legal especially if America wants to uphold separation from church and state, as well as assume the same responsibilities toward their partner as do heterosexuals and their spouses, and as minority gays deserve to be considered the same as the majority citizens. ... Advocates for the opposition stress that the definition for marriage states that the sanction should be reserved for male and female couples because God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve (Law Dictionary of Homosexuality 179). ... Many people don’t understand why people of the same sex could possibly want to marry one another, but the fact is there are individuals who love a person so much that they want to express and have it recognized in the most notable fashion.
