Civil Peace By. Chinua Achebe I would personally consider Civil Peace by Chinua Achebe to be an unassuming tragedy. Achebe tells this story about a modest man, and his modest family through the voice of the father and leader of the household. Jonathan, our main character explains day to day life in a post war environment where survival and faith is truly the most important thing in their lives. But the way Achebe writes this is so profoundly powerful because he provides us with the hopes and dreams of the characters by having Jonathan talk about the simplest and most insignificant things in such great importance. Such as his bicycle, and his taxi job. What makes this so powerful is the way our main character explains his day to day life, but discreetly mentions horrific things that has happened in his life and occurring around him, such as losing his youngest son, and the terrible war which has just recently ended.
