Lifeguard Draft As a 23 year-old, eight years of my life have been dedicated towards helping save the lives of others as a lifeguard. Four of these glorious years I have been working at lifeguard. Being a lifeguard is very important to me, and I really enjoy helping others in need. Unfortunately, in the past few years there have been some problems that occurred at the lifeguard draft. The issue that I wish to discuss is: Should Senior Lifeguards run the annual Lifeguard Draft? Is the draft fair to all of the lifeguards involved? Every summer, before the lifeguard season starts, a lifeguard draft takes place. Every lifeguard, who wishes to change their beach location for the upcoming season, takes part in the draft. The draft is supposed to be based on seniority, which depends on how many years one has been a and one’s placement in his or her rookie class. Unfortunately, the draft has been unjust in the last few years, and many lifeguards have been very displeased with the results of the draft. The problem with the draft is that it can be extremely unfair at times. For the last two years, I have not been able to be placed at the beach I wanted for the upcoming summer. In both cases, I was promised a position the year before. Many of the lifeguards have “connections” with people who have seniority, which are also the people who are in charge of the lifeguard draft. Therefore, these lifeguards can easily be put at any beach of their choice, no matter how long they have been working.
