Lake Norman
It was a warm Friday spring morning; I needed some quiet time, and the only place that I could think of was Lake Norman. I decided to forget all of my frustrations, worries, and responsibilities for a couple of days and drive to this secluded lake. I loaded my canoe and camping gear in my truck and headed for the lake.
Once I arrived at the lake, I pushed off in my canoe and paddled out for some much needed quiet time. ... As I slowly paddled across the lake, the slicing motion of my paddle was pure precision; I noticed a mallard swimming lazily in the water. ... I began paddling effortlessly, when all of a sudden, I had to stop and watch the grace of a fifteen hundred-pound moose swim across the lake.
I decided to stop at the end of the Kamahi River, which feeds Lake Norman. ... After breaking camp, I was back on the lake. It was still foggy, and the smell of the morning dew was strong, I quietly paddle across the lake, taking care not to scare the moose that was feeding at the edge of the lake. I am distracted by a small wake of a single duck swimming across the lake.
