This book is a story of a teen boy who has been kicked out of school and tells of how he tries to understand himself. It is about Holden Caulfield, a teen boy in 1950’s NY. He decides to go on a early excursion by skipping school few days before the term ends and before he heads back home to his parents…. Below is a analysis of what Holden experiences in those few days, these experiences include a growing possibility of nervous breakdowns, depression, impulsive and erratic behaviors before his nervous collapse. Holden plays the role of an adolescent in “The Catcher in the Rye”. His issues go beyond a teen going thru a phase. He requires special attention, attention he does not really get. He is confused about society and does not seem to understand why things are the way they are. He has lost his innocence but feels he should help others avoid that tragedy. He has trust issues, for instance, Holden does not trust his parents or his teachers, but it is not simply due to a bad experience, but because he has trouble understanding the way they think vs. the way he thinks. He only trusts his 2 siblings, Allie who is deceased and Phoebe his sister. Holden seems to have everyone’s best interest at heart, but this always tends to burn him as well. His roommate wants him to do his paper for him, even though Holden is resistant about it, he feels he should help Stradlater so agrees to write his paper. Holden also shows the caring side when he writes on his exam that it is not Mr. Spencer’s fault if he fails, it was all Holden, this is to keep Mr.
