The work I have chosen for this assignment is the Arnolfini Double Portrait by Jan Van Eyck. The work is a painting on panel and the actual size of it is 32 ¼” by 23 ½”. It features two individuals placed in a domestic environment. The couple is Giovanni and Giovanna Arnolfini. They are pictured in their bedroom holding hands and their lap dog is standing happily at their feet. What appears to be an afternoon sunlight is coming through the window behind them on the left. There is a bed behind them to the right. The other furniture featured in the room is a chair directly behind them and a low table under the window on the left that has oranges on it. There is a chandelier on hanging from the roof, a thick rug on the floor on the wall above the chair behind them. This piece clearly denotes wealth and power in all of its details.
