Patriarchal Feminist criticism includes many different approaches to understanding gender is represented in literature. Feminist critics explore the ways women are presented in texts by both male and female authors. They look at the ways female use the elements of fiction to present female experience or challenge the assumptions of the patriarchal culture. which is the story I chose to write my paper on leads itself to many different readings but most of all you to look at it from a feminist approach. The story is about a woman who is not only physically imprisoned in this attic room but spiritually and emotionally confined. She is held in confined quarters by a patronizing male that reduces her to childish dependency. When the story opens you find out that the narrator has a mental and her husband and her brother, both being doctors, tell her she needs rest and to go stay at this house.
