DJ zinc is a pioneer in the drum n bass and garage industry. Not only is he an essential name to any event line up but he has exceptional ability to produce records that totally set standards within both these industries’. His records bring an unmistakable vibe to not only the dance floor but to young budding DJ’s all over the country. DJ Zinc also has the ability to be so flexible within one style. He has no problem producing bassline tearers that make the crowd go off as well as producing soulful, more rolling tracks for the slightly easier listener. DJ Zinc’s best ability is his consistency. Not only is he a pioneer setting standards today with track like “freenote” but he has been there from near enough when jungle began. An example of this would be one of his earliest tracks “super sharp shooter” which was released in the early nineties on Ganja recordings. This track took the scene by storm and is now redound as a classic that still gets cained in oldskool sets all over the country. This is what “knowledge” a music magazine had to say about DJ zinc – Zinc's musical youth included just about every style you can imagine, but hip hop in particular, from '87-'88 onwards. Through tuning in to Centreforce FM, he began to follow the fresh sounds of the UK acid house / rave scene. His participation in the scene occurred more by chance than intent, for as he explains, "I didn't really aspire to be a DJ and producer, it sort of just happened. When I was DJing in my bedroom, I was happy, then one of my friends sent off a tape of Swift and I to a pirate. The first thing I knew about it was when Swift phoned me on a Saturday at 3pm and said, "we're on the radio at four." Likewise with the progression to playing at raves and clubs. I loved it every time, but I wasn't really enthusiastic, it just happened." The radio station was Impact FM, and it was here that the Swift & Zinc shows first took to the airwaves, further down the line running on Format and then Eruption. Zinc didn't waste much time in getting into the studio either, as he recalls his first break - "Swift and I were in the Impact studio on a Saturday night at about 4am, and Bizzy B phoned in and asked if we could drive him to Tasco's to give out some promos in return for some cheap studio time. So we held him to his promise." Simple as that! The result of this was the first in the long running Swift & Zinc series on Brain Progression Records - there were something like eighteen volumes! However, this isn't the same Swift with a release on True Playaz and his own Charge label, for Zinc's old partner now produces and plays garage.
